Bridlington Old Town

Yes, you’re still in Bridlington! But you have stepped back in time a few hundred years. You’d better behave though, or you could find yourself in the stocks!  This is Bridlington’s Old Town, a real historic gem of a place. Along the pretty 17th century High Street are antique shops, craft shops and charming cafes.

In its picturesque setting on the Green stands St Mary’s Priory Church, almost 1,000 years old and part of what was once one of the largest and most important monasteries in Northern England. Across the green from the church, the Priory Gatehouse formerly a prison - is now the Bayle Museum with displays of famous people connected with Bridlington.

And the stocks? They’re still in the market place, don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Golden sandy beaches, award-winning promenades, a historic harbour Bridlington can truly claim to be one of Britain`s best seaside resorts, whether you want traditional seaside fun or something a little more cultural.

Bridlington`s golden sands are spotlessly clean and behind them are the award-winning promenades where you can sit and soak up the sun while you watch the children having fun on the beach.

Between the North and South beaches, the historic harbour is a hive of activity, with fishing boats bringing in the day`s catch, pleasure cruises along the heritage coast, speedboat rides across the bay and North Sea fishing expeditions all on offer.

For traditional entertainment there`s the funfair, Kiddies Corner and donkey rides, and fun family attractions in town include Beside the Seaside, an entertaining look at Bridlington`s history as a seaside resort, and Old Penny Memories, with its collection of period amusements. On the edge of town is Sewerby Hall and Gardens, where pitch and putt, a bowling green, adventure playground, craft workshops and the Clock Tower Tea Rooms ensure that there`s plenty to keep all the family happily entertained.

Rain or shine, day or night, Bridlington will keep you entertained. Leisure World, with its wave pool, water rapid slides and tropical rain storm, makes a great indoor day out. And check out the big names appearing at the Spa Theatre and Royal Hall.

In the Old Town and you`ll find olde world pubs, antique shops and the superb stained glass windows of Bridlington Priory Church, almost 1,000 years old and once one of the largest and most important monasteries in Northern England. One of the antique shops has now been converted into our superior holiday let, which is arranged over the 3 floors.

Across the green from the church, the Priory Gatehouse (1388) has served many purposes over the last 900 years, it has even been a prison! These days it`s the Bayle Museum and includes displays of famous people connected with Bridlington.

A scenic drive from Bridlington explores the Flamborough Headland Heritage Coastline and the ancient villages of the northern Wolds.
